Online Physiotherapy and Telehealth:

So what is Telehealth or "Online Physiotherapy"“?

It means we can take the physio consultation and treatment online. If you are unsure whether it would work for you, feel free to email us.

How does it work?

Just bear with me for this one because I know what you’re thinking. Isn’t physio very “hands on”? Just give me a moment to explain how it works. It’ll also help you understand why there is strong evidence supporting the effectiveness of online physio.

1) Physiotherapy is about giving you a clear understanding of what you injury is, how and why it happened.

2) We then develop a plan to to help you recover, we give you education around whether you should keep pushing, or do less. We will develop a series of exercises for you to best help your condition. Physiotherapy is about empowering you with knowledge to help manage your condition.

3) We monitor your situation to make sure you’re happy with your results and we tweak any of the treatment plan if required.

Okay…so how does ONLINE physio work?

1) You will receive an assessment form which you would need to send it back to us.

2) When ready for your video consultation, you will receive a link for you to access the video consultation. In that consult we will ask you any further questions and ask you to perform certain movements to further understand your condition.

3) We then formulate a treatment plan with explanations and videos for you to follow

What if it doesn’t work for me?

Don’t worry. Not ALL conditions are suitable for online consults and we will let you know at no charge.

What if I need “hands on” physio?

As per the above, not all conditions are suitable for online consults. If we feel you need “hands on” therapy we will let you know! BUT there is strong evidence supporting supervised structured rehabilitation and getting better. Learning to treat your own injury helps you understand your condition. It’ll also encourage you to implement preventative strategies for the future. Over the last decade physiotherapy has been moving away from pure “hands on” techniques and more towards education, guided rehabilitation programs and empowering you with the right knowledge.

How can you know what is wrong without touching me?

All physiotherapy appointments start with a subjective assessment where we try to get a detailed understanding of your program through a series of questions. By the end of this, physiotherapists have a clear idea of what your likely injury is going to be. We then perform some tests to confirm the problem.

In the online setting, we will ask you questions via an online form, and then we will contact you to clarify some answers, have you perform certain movements and assess your performance and feedback. If we are unsure about the problem we will contact you to have you come in for therapy or to refer you to the right health professional.

Will my insurance pay for consult?

This is an ever changing area especially during the period of the COVID-19 situation. Ask you insurance whether they are happy to provide rebates for online consultations.
